CoolSculpting

How It Works

CoolSculpting® is one of the most recently FDA-approved treatments for unwanted fat on the body, including those frustrating spots that you can’t get rid of even with diet and exercise. It works quickly and without surgery to treat pesky areas like the abdomen, back, sides, upper arms, inner thighs, outer chest and under the chin. With CoolSculpting®, you can have dramatic results without any evidence left behind.

The Science Behind The Treatment

CoolSculpting® works by cooling down fat cells to the point where they burst. These fat cells are then gradually broken down and absorbed into the body via the bloodstream. CoolSculpting® is a long-lasting procedure because it physically removes fat from areas.

How to Prepare

Let your provider know if you have ever had any other procedure performed in the area you would like treated during your consult, such as liposuction. Also be sure to let her/him know if you are planning on losing weight, have recently lost weight, or are planning on gaining weight. Our providers may suggest medications prior and after treatment for optimal healing.

What to Expect

Before you arrive

Be sure to eat before arriving for your appointment. Since CoolSculpting® can be a full day experience, depending upon the number of areas that you are treating, we encourage you to bring these items for use during your treatment: snacks, drink, magazine, book, tablet, e-reader, laptop. We have an Apple TV in our CoolSculpting® room and Netflix for you to watch while you get your treatments.

We also suggest that you bring a change of undergarments to each of your appointments as you may get gel on them during your treatment. The gel does come out in the wash.

If you are treating a hairy area or if you are a male client who is having your neck treated, please shave the morning of your treatment.

If you are having your abdomen and/or flanks treated you are encouraged to bring and use Spanx, supportive athletic pants or an ace bandage to provide compression to this area. Some patients feel better with constricting garments like these; however, other people like comfortable, foldover yoga pants (with no tight waistband) after treatment. Whichever you prefer, the treatment's success does not depend on the type of garment you wear afterwards. For male clients, we suggest that you bring a pair of athletic shorts to each of your appointments.

After Treatment

After your procedure, you may experience some tenderness and swelling in the area treated. We will give you in-depth aftercare instructions at your appointment and are available to answer any questions as needed.

What It Will Feel Like

CoolSculpting® true to its name, will feel cold for the initial 5 to 10 minutes of the treatment before the area becomes numb. You may also feel a gentle tugging or very mild pinching in the area being treated, as CoolSculpting® works in part by suctioning the area (sand then freezing it).

Post-procedure Care

Typically, there is minimal discomfort and recovery time after the CoolSculpting® procedure and most patients are able to return to their daily routine immediately after the procedure. The treated area may be red for up to a few hours after the applicator is removed and bruising is common in the following days. We will give you in-depth aftercare instructions at your appointment and are available to answer any questions as needed.
