Extractions are one of the quickest and simplest ways to remove unwanted bumps caused by clogged pores. Bumps that are good candidates for being extracted range from acne to milia, although this can change depending on their cause and structure. For example, cystic acne often cannot be extracted easily without risk of scarring.
Your esthetician extracts bumps with a a small, sterile blade and an extractor. Once the top of the targeted bump is gently opened with the blade, the extractor is used to put gentle pressure on the surrounding area. This causes what is inside the bump to come out.
Before your extraction appointment, let us know if you have any allergies or sensitivities to products. Please do not wear any make-up that will be difficult to remove with a gentle cleanser or wipe. Extractions do not require much preparation otherwise, but feel free to call the office ahead of time with questions or concerns.
We will gently cleanse the area to be treated before your extraction. Extractions don't require numbing of any kind.
After your treatment, your esthetician will apply a toner to the treated areas. You may notice some mild redness, although redness should fade an hour or two after your appointment.
Many clients who have extractions consider it painless. You may feel pressure when the comedone extractor is being used to draw out the contents of a bump, although most find it very tolerable.
On the day of your procedure, be careful to use only gentle, non-comedogenic products. Once the areas have healed you can resume your normal skin care routine. We will give you in-depth aftercare instructions at your appointment and are available to answer any questions as needed.
