Platelet Rich Plasma Injections

How It Works

Platelet rich plasma, or PRP, is a natural product and treatment created from your own body for hair loss. It involves obtaining a sample of your own blood for concentration and then separation of the red and white cells from the platelets and the plasma. Rich platelets containing growth factors are in this concentrated plasma, which promote re-growth of hair. This is then re-administered into your skin at your appointment.

The Science Behind The Treatment

PRP is rich with essential nutrients and growth factors that help to decrease inflammation and stimulate new follicular hair regrowth. PRP is most effective when used in conjunction with other treatment options and prescription home care, which our providers can discuss with you at your initiallmedical appointment.

How to Prepare

Tell us if you have ever had any injectable medication before or any other procedure to treat hair loss and if have any history of blood clotting disorders. We may suggest medications prior to and after treatment for optimal healing, and may request that you suspend certain medications or supplements prior to the treatment.

What to Expect

Before you arrive

To obtain your blood plasma, your blood will be drawn prior to your procedure. After separating the highly concentrated platelet rich plasma from your own blood sample, it will be prepared into a series of injections. These take a few minutes to administer and are mildly uncomfortable. Most patients state that the area feels “heavy” after it has been injected. Cold air will be blown onto the areas injected in order to cool and numb them.

After Treatment

Mild swelling and moderate redness will occur and will fade within 1-3 days. Occasionally, there may be some bruising which should resolve within 5 days. Typically, the downtime with this procedure is very minimal.

What It Will Feel Like

Most patients find PRP uncomfortable but tolerable on the scalp without topical numbing. Cold air helps to alleviate pain during the procedure. Many state that their scalp feels “heavy” after the treatment.

Post-procedure Care

Ice can be applied to ease swelling and bruising. We will give you in-depth aftercare instructions at your appointment and are available to answer any questions as needed.
