NovaThreads is a cosmetic facial rejuvenation procedure using FDA Approved polydioxane sutures to lift, tighten, firm and smooth your skin. NovaThreads are needles that are pre-loaded with a PDO thread. Simply insert the whole needle in the interstitial tissue at subdermal level, parallel to the surface of the skin, and pull the needle out. The PDO thread remains under the skin. The idea behind Nova Threads is to either create a scaffolding in order to support the tissues and keep them in a “V-shape”, or where necessary, to delicately lift the tissues and reposition the skin to recreate the “V-shape” where it has been lost.
PDO (Polydioxanone) is used for biomedical applications, particularly in cardiothoracic surgery because it is fully absorbed by hydrolysis within 4 to 6 months and does not create any scar tissues. The foreign body stimulates collagen synthesis and the skin structure created will hold for another 12 to 15 months.
Local anesthetic is gently injected into entry points for the threads. The PDO threads are introduced using a delicate needle or a fine microcannula.
Effects should be noticeable immediately after treatment however maximum effect will occur 4-6 weeks later. Bruising and swelling is normal and expected. Asymmetry and irregularity of the tissue is common and will resolve on its own in about 2 weeks. Pain at the insertion points is normal and may last several days to 2 weeks after treatment.
