Injectable Neurotoxins

How It Works

Injectable neurotoxins offer a quick, safe, and easy way to reduce the signs of aging and enhance your appearance. At Nua, we administer cosmetic injections on a regular basis and frequently participate in advanced training opportunities. As a result, our physicians are very experienced in the latest techniques and applications of cosmetic injections.

Cosmetic injections are excellent for targeting specific problem areas of the face and may be repeated or combined for ideal results. There is little or no down time and most patients can go about business as usual immediately after treatment.

Injectable neurotoxins are a safe and effective way to diminish unwanted facial wrinkles such as frown lines and crow’s feet. They are a non-surgical, FDA-approved method that help you to look younger quickly and affordably.

Botox®

Botox® was the first injectable neurotoxin on the market that temporarily reduces the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. It typically involves a quick 10-minute treatment with minimal downtime. It delivers predictable, subtle results, so you look like you, only with fewer noticeable facial lines. Results typically last from 3-6 months.

Xeomin®

Xeomin®, like Botox®, is a neurotoxin that blocks signals to muscles so that they cannot contract and cause fine lines and wrinkles. Xeomin® does not contain any additives, which helps to reduce the likelihood of developing antibodies to Xeomin®. It typically involves a quick 10-minute treatment with minimal downtime. It takes approximately 5-7 days for the full effect of Xeomin® to occur and results typically last from 3-6 months.

Daxxify ®

DAXXIFY™ is FDA approved to help smooth moderate to severe lines between the brows. It is the only long-lasting frown line treatment powered by a peptide with results that last on average 6 months and up to 9 months for some.* The active ingredient in DAXXIFY™ is a purified protein called botulinum toxin type A.

The Science Behind The Treatment

Injectable neurotoxins are derived from botulinum toxin, and cause controlled paralysis of the muscle they are being injected into. Because most wrinkles and lines are caused by the repeat contraction of muscles in the face, inhibiting those movement allows them to fade. Though there are many different providers who inject neurotoxins into the face, at Nua our providers are board-certified dermatologists and their highly trained staff, with in-depth knowledge of facial anatomy and skin, are have decades of training of injecting neurotoxins. In the hands of well-trained injectors, you will have a natural look and a fully expressive, more youthful face after the treatment.

How to Prepare

Let us know if you have ever had any injectable medication before or any other procedure to treat wrinkles. Also, let us know if you have a history of cold sores or have ever had an adverse reaction to injectable botulism or similar treatments in the past.

What to Expect

Before you arrive

Avoid wearing makeup that would be difficult to remove with a gentle wipe or wash.

Before your procedure, we will gently cleanse and prep the area to be treated. Because the injectable neurotoxin procedure is only mildly uncomfortable, topical numbing is not typically required. If you are interested in having topical numbing, schedule an appointment one hour before your procedure time.

After Treatment

After your procedure you will have a small “mosquito bite” in the areas of injection. This typically fades within a few minutes to hours. Some patients also experience mild bruising in the areas injected, although this varies greatly between individuals. It is fine to cover up bruising with makeup. We will give you in-depth aftercare instructions at your appointment and are available to answer any questions as needed.

Most patients get neurotoxin injections every 3 to 4 months in order to keep wrinkles at bay long-term.

What It Will Feel Like

Most patients say that neurotoxin injections are mildly uncomfortable and easy to tolerate without topical numbing. Topical numbing is available if you are concerned about pain during the procedure. With it, the majority of patients state that they do not feel the injections.

Post-procedure Care

After your treatment you should use the muscles injected actively for at least 10 minutes following the procedure. Please do not lie down or take a nap for at least 4 hours after the procedure, as it is important that the neurotoxin settle into the correct place and not migrate. We will give you in-depth aftercare instructions at your appointment and are available to answer any questions as needed.
