Microdermabrasion utilizes a diamond tip to resurface and exfoliate dead skin cells, oil and impurities, and significantly improve skin’s appearance without pain and little irritation. This treatment, if done regularly, can minimize wrinkles, scars, sun damage and active acne. Microdermabrasion usually requires no down time.
First, crystals are used to exfoliate the skin’s surface. Once this has been done, suction is applied to remove both the crystals and dead, exfoliated skin. Through the suction and exfoliation, collagen growth is stimulated, promoting the filling in of scars and the formation of new skin.
Let the provider know if you have a history of cold sores or have ever had an adverse reaction to any similar procedures in the past. Our providers may suggest medications prior to and after treatment for optimal healing.
Please be sure to gently cleanse the area being treated and remove all makeup prior to your procedure time.
Before your procedure, the area to be treated will be gently cleansed and prepped. Because microdermabrasion is only minimally irritating, it does not require numbing of any kind. Most patients find the procedure very tolerable.
After your procedure, your skin may be pink in the areas treated, which will fade within a few hours, rarely a day. You can apply non-comedogenic, unscented moisturizer to your face after the procedure. Most patients have no down-time associated with microdermabrasion.
Some patients compare microdermabrasion as being similar to the feeling of a “cat’s tongue licking your skin.” It is not a painful procedure and does not require numbing of any kind.
After microdermabrasion, apply a gentle cleanser and moisturizer to your face. Make sure both are non-comedogenic. For any specific questions, you may refer to your written aftercare instructions or call our office.
